Supervised Agricultural Experience:

I spend a majority of my time keeping up with my Entrepreneurship Sheep Production SAE. In 2018, I started my family farm, Burkhalter Farms, where I breed, raise, and show market sheep. While spending time on my family farm, I have learned more about the importance of health and wellness such as dieting and nutrition, vaccination upkeep, hoof maintenance, and breeding procedures.

Career Development/Leadership/Talent Event(s):

I have competed in the Livestock Evaluation CDE for four years, the Creed Speaking LDE for two, and the Extemporaneous Speaking LDE for two and placed on the state level both years.

Major FFA Accomplishments:

My major FFA accomplishments include receiving the M.K. Heath Award, placing in Sheep Production proficiency three years in a row, serving two years as a North District Officer, and being elected State President.

Favorite Book:

My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I absolutely love the confidence and determination that Elizabeth Bennet exhibits. I relate to her quick sarcasm and wittiness almost everyday.

Favorite Movie:

My favorite movie is Clueless. The movie focuses on the everyday life of 15 year old Cher Horowitz, who lives in Beverly Hills. Cher is a stereotypical blonde who somehow manages to put herself in ironic situations.

Favorite Meal:

My favorite meal is fried fish, french fries, a pickle, strawberry lemonade, and turtle pie for dessert.

Favorite Quote:

“The person who said winning isn’t everything, never won anything” – Mia Hamm

Favorite Song:

I’m a major Parker McCollum fan and love all of his music. The one I keep on repeat the most is probably I Can’t Breathe.

Favorite thing about FFA:

My favorite thing about FFA is that it brings people together. It doesn’t matter where a person comes from or who they are, when they join FFA they become part of a family. The blue jacket is just another home away from home.

Favorite FFA Memory:

When I was in the eighth grade, my ag teacher asked me to the Creed speaking contest. I was fully convinced that he was out of his mind. I asked myself “who wants to memorize 5 paragraphs for fun?”. Despite my skepticism, I competed in the county contest. I somehow managed to walk away with first place, and a secured spot to compete at district. I was amazed at how I overcame my doubt and hidden nerves.

College Plans:

I plan to attend Mississippi State University and pursue a degree in animal production. With that degree, I want to specialize in artificial insemination and start my career
