I keep busy participating in two SAEs’ based around poultry production with chickens and turkeys and my egg production business. I have around forty chicken hens and two roosters. I also have one tom turkey and two turkey hens. I have all kinds of chickens from Leghorn, Sussex, Americana, and Silkies. My tom turkey is a Bronze turkey, and my two hens are Bronze and Bourbon Red turkeys. I collect both my chickens’ and turkeys’ eggs for my egg production business. While I sell most of my chickens’ eggs to the public for consumption, I keep some for incubation. As for my turkey eggs, I keep those mainly for incubation. I started my SAEs during my freshman year of high school, and since then, it has taught me many valuable lessons on responsibility and professionalism.
Career Development/Leadership/Talent Events:
I competed in Parliamentary Procedure my sophomore year, and my team placed 3rd in state. I have also competed in creed speaking and Prepared Public Speaking for three years, where I placed 1st in county twice and top five in district twice. I have also competed in Poultry evaluation at the county and district levels.
Major FFA Accomplishments:
My major FFA accomplishments include placing in the top five at district for prepared public speaking. My chapter being announced as a 3-star chapter, getting my state degree, and being elected as State Reporter.
Favorite Book:
My favorite book of all time is Dark Winds by Tony Hillerman. I’m a big fan of Westerns and ghost stories, so when my mom got it for me, I couldn’t wait to start reading it. It had the perfect mix of both ghost stories and Westerns. When I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down; I read it over the course of two days. It was the most fantastic book I have ever read.
Favorite Movie:
My favorite movie is Disney’s The Rescuers. It is about a club called the “Rescue Aid Society” where mice from all over the country come together and try and save children. Even though it is a cartoon, it has a meaningful message that no matter what, there is always hope, and no matter who you are, you can always help others.
Favorite Meal:
My favorite meal consists of my mom’s homemade spaghetti and garlic bread with sweet tea, served with a piece of her famous banana bread.
Favorite Quote:
“The Ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.”
– Masanobu Fukuoka
Favorite Song:
Although my favorite song changes from day to day, you can pretty much find me listening to anything Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, or Zach Bryan.
Favorite thing about FFA:
My favorite thing about FFA is that when you join this excellent association, you become part of a family; no matter where you’re from, you are always treated like family by other FFA members, and that is what I love the most about FFA.
Favorite FFA Memory:
My favorite memory would have to be all of the long car rides with my chapter officer team. We would somehow always end up in trouble with Mr. Kincer, our AG teacher; for either distracting him, talking too loudly, or being too quiet.
College Plans:
Currently, I am a full-time student at Gadsden State Community College. Once I graduate with my basics, I plan on transferring to Auburn University and majoring in Agricultural Education to become an Ag Teacher to give back to those who helped me.
